Honest to Goodness Icon Pop Word App Review

Icon Pop Word is the next game to come from the makers of the “Icon Pop…” line of games. It is created and sold by Allegrium. They are the same guys who introduced other popular games such as Icon Pop Quiz and Icon Pop Brand. This next game released in April of 2013 pretty much follows the same line but slightly deviates a bit from the earlier games that the company has introduced.

So What’s New?

For the record, there are millions of people who play the Icon Pop games. The figures suggest something around 15 million or something. That somehow gives you an idea just how popular these games are.

This new brand of Icon Pop game introduces a few new things. It includes new categories never before seen in the previous games. Players will see fewer ads on this game. It provides users with the ability to share the game experience with their friends. Finally, this next game introduces hundreds of new icons for players to work with.

Here’s a little sneak peek into the workings of the game. It’s included here so that you can make up your mind whether it’s worth downloading or not. The truth is that the game is really simple to play since everything is pretty straightforward.

When you open the app, you’ll notice that the overall design is pretty flat. The images are 2D; from here you can already tell that the design isn’t too graphically intensive.

Some of the new categories that were not introduced by Icon Pop Word predecessor games include jobs, hobbies, activities, sports, and even horoscopes. The best thing about this next game from Alegrium is the fact that they reduced the amount of clutter (i.e. ads that come up on your screen). They still come up every now and then but not as frequently as they did before.

Since the game layout is simple, the mechanics of the game is rather easy to comprehend. You are provided an image (also known as an icon). Your clues are the image or icon right smack dab in the middle of your screen plus the category or label underneath it.

For example, you can be shown an icon of a nice bright yellow pencil that is labeled as “activity.” This means that the word in question is an activity that has something to do with the use of pencils.

The other elements of the screen will also provide you clues as well as a section where you can enter your answer. Several letters will be suggested below the icon but (as you might have guessed) some letters have been included to purposefully confuse the player.

You can go by a simple trial and error with the letters listed on your screen or if you already know the answer then put it in the boxes provided for. The Social Media Aspect of the Game

Just like other Icon Pop games, this one also incorporates social media avenues to add a little community spirit into the game. You can post the icon on Facebook or Twitter and you can ask your friends for some tips. Some icons can be a little challenging than others.

The size of this game is only 9.8 megabytes, which isn’t really that big. The game language is English. Overall, the game is rated a 4+, which is a lot more child friendly compared to other picture guessing games.

Icon Pop Word requires your device to run iOS 4.3 or later. The game works on iPad or iPhone, so you just have to choose the screen size you’re more comfortable with. However, it is best played on the iPhone 5.
